HG Newstead (Hallowed grounds cafe)

HG Newstead, also known as Hallowed Grounds, is a Scandinavian-inspired cafe on Doggett Street with a casual backyard-style courtyard out back, and dogs are welcome there on a leash.

The dog setup. Dogs sit with you in the outdoor courtyard area at the back, which has artificial turf and shade. A few footpath tables out front are usually fine too, but the backyard is the main dog-friendly spot. Staff keep dog biscuits on hand and will bring a water bowl if you ask. Dogs need to stay on a leash and under control.

Known for. Zest Coffee, Nordic-style smorrebrod and pastries, and a relaxed, plant-filled backyard feel that suits a slow morning coffee.

Getting there. It's at 11 Doggett St, Newstead. Street parking on Doggett Street and Wyandra Street is your best bet, though it fills up on weekend mornings. Easy walk from Teneriffe and inner Newstead.

Nearby with the dogs. The Teneriffe Riverwalk is a short stroll away for a pre or post-coffee wander, and New Farm Park's off-leash areas are a short drive.

Go early on weekends before the courtyard fills, or aim for a weekday morning if you want a table without the wait.
