Hoblers Bridge Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Hoblers Bridge Reserve Fenced Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash enclosure on Hoblers Bridge Road in Newstead, bordered by the North Esk River. It is a bush-style run rather than a manicured lawn: native trees and shrubs through the middle, open grassy room to sprint, and a quiet river-side setting at the edge of the suburb.

The dog setup

Off-leash is permitted only inside the fenced area, which has secure perimeter fencing and proper gates. Everywhere else in the wider reserve, including the river-side walking trails and bushland paths, dogs must stay on lead. Water taps and communal bowls sit inside the enclosure, though bring a backup bowl in case the tap is not working, and carry your own waste bags because the dispensers are not always stocked. Seating is limited, so most visits are walk-and-run rather than park-and-linger.

Max: watch the gate latches when other dogs are coming and going, and do not assume every dog inside has solid recall just because the fence is there.

The vibe

Locals rate this as a peaceful run with regulars who cycle through in the late afternoons and on weekends. The reserve is a genuine 24 hour space, so early mornings before work are workable too. Expect mud on the ground through winter, which is worth a towel in the car. The park itself is a dry fenced enclosure; the North Esk River runs alongside, but there is no swimming access from the dog park.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is on Hoblers Bridge Road, Newstead, with gravel parking on site. You can also walk in from Newstead or through Heritage Forest via the connecting trails. Metro Tasmania buses run along nearby Penquite Road and Talbot Road, each a short walk from the entrance.

Close by with the dogs

Clove Cafe on Amy Road is a few minutes away for coffee after a muddy run, and Waterfront Dog Park gives you a second option closer to the river mouth. If you want a bigger fenced spread, Heritage Forest Fenced Dog Park at the Invermay end is about eight minutes by car.
