Hoblers Bridge Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Hoblers Bridge Reserve Fenced Dog Park is a large, fully fenced off-leash area on Hoblers Bridge Road in Newstead, bordered by the North Esk River. It's a rustic, bush-style run rather than a manicured lawn, with natural shade and plenty of room to let a dog properly stretch its legs.

The rules. Off-leash is permitted only inside the fenced area. Everywhere else in the wider reserve, dogs must be on-lead. Owners need reliable voice control over their dogs even within the fence, and bringing your own waste bags is a good idea in case the dispensers are empty.

What's there. Secure perimeter fencing with proper gates, water taps and communal bowls (bring a backup bowl in case they're not working), and good natural shade from native bushland. Seating is limited, so this is more a walking-and-running spot than a place to linger. There are no public toilets on site.

Getting there. Hoblers Bridge Road, Newstead, TAS 7250. There's gravel car parking on site, and it's also reachable on foot via trails from Newstead or through the Heritage Forest. Metro Tasmania buses run along nearby Penquite Road and Talbot Road, with a short walk in from either stop.

Watch-outs. The ground turns muddy in winter, so pack towels for the car. The North Esk River runs alongside the reserve but the dog park itself is a dry, fenced enclosure, not river access, so don't expect a swim here.

Nearby with the dogs. Clove Cafe on Amy Road is a few minutes' drive away for coffee and baked treats afterwards. A few accommodation options around Launceston take pets, but confirm pet policies directly before booking.

Late afternoons (4 to 6pm) and sunny weekend mornings are the busiest. Weekday mornings or mid-morning on weekends are quieter if your dog prefers a calmer run. Good for dogs that need real space to burn off energy, less suited to a quick five-minute stop.
