Heritage Forest Fenced Dog Park sits inside the wider Heritage Forest parkland on Forster Street, Invermay, beside the Churchill Park Sporting Complex. It is a fully enclosed off lead area on reclaimed riverside land, which means a proper run without the constant lead-clipping of a shared park, with the Launceston CBD only minutes away.

The dog setup

Dogs run off lead only inside the fenced enclosure; everywhere else in Heritage Forest, leads are compulsory along the multi-use tracks, playgrounds and picnic grounds. Keep your dog leashed from the car park until you are both inside the gate, stay in control at all times, and remove any dog showing aggression immediately. Bins and bag dispensers are provided, but carrying spares is never a bad idea.

Inside the fence you get open grass, scattered trees for shade, agility elements to poke around, water taps and seating for owners. The surrounding parkland adds walking and cycling tracks, a playground with all-abilities flying fox, outdoor exercise equipment, an undercover barbecue area, community gardens and accessible toilets if you want to make a morning of it.

Max: check the enclosure gate is latched behind you before letting anyone off the lead, and hold a firm recall near the entrance until you know who else is inside.

The vibe

Weekdays are generally quiet, weekends busier, and Saturday mornings see extra foot traffic because the park sits on the 5km Launceston parkrun route. If you want the enclosure to yourselves, weekday mornings outside the parkrun window are the safest bet; evenings after work work well too.

Getting there and parking

The park is off Forster Street near UTAS Stadium, with easy access from Invermay Road (the A7) and parking on site. The entrance is wheelchair accessible, bus stops on Invermay Road are a short walk away, and much of Invermay's accommodation sits within walking distance.

Close by with the dogs

Grain of the Silos by the Tamar waterfront is the obvious refuel after a long run. Over in Launceston proper, Aroma's Cafe and Tidal Cafe are easy coffee stops to point the car towards.
