Northey Street Park Fenced Dog Park

Northey Street Park Fenced Dog Park is a large, fully fenced off lead area on Edgar Street in Windsor, part of the wider Downey Park precinct and open around the clock. It gives inner north Brisbane a proper enclosed run where a reliable recall is optional rather than essential.

The dog setup

Dogs stay on lead until inside the fence, then can run off lead under effective control, with owners responsible for cleaning up and for removing any dog that turns aggressive. Keep vaccinations current before visiting. The enclosure has grass underfoot, mature shade trees, agility gear for active dogs, on site bins and a tap, though bringing your own bowl is worth doing since bowls are not always out.

There is no separate small dog area, which can make peak sessions intense for nervous or smaller dogs, so the dual gate is your friend when the pack is flowing. Downey Park next door adds public toilets and a playground for the rest of the family.

Max: Skip the Saturday afternoon rush if your dog isn't keen on crowds. Mid morning on a weekday is far calmer and gives you the run of the agility gear.

Mosquitoes are a known issue here, especially near the water, so pack repellent in the warmer months. Saturday afternoons draw the biggest crowd of the week, while weekday mornings and quiet evenings from Sunday to Tuesday are the best windows.

Getting there and parking

Free on site parking comes with flat, easy access, though Downey Park fills when Saturday sport and netball are on. Buses run along nearby Lutwyche Road, and Windsor and Albion train stations are both within reach.

Close by with the dogs

Cafe Laybes on Maygar Street is a short trip away and welcomes dogs, often with water bowls out front. The fenced run at Crosby Park Fenced Dog Park in Albion is another option across Breakfast Creek, and Alma Park West gives an unfenced off lead alternative.
