Plant Room Cafe(Spring Hill)

Plant Room Cafe is a social enterprise cafe on Edney Lane in Spring Hill, just south of the Wollongong CBD, run by The Disability Trust as an employment and training site for people with disability. It turns out good coffee, sandwiches and casual meals, and it has a genuinely dog-friendly welcome: dogs are welcome both inside and out, with water bowls set down and a treat jar by the counter.

The dog setup

Water bowls are set out for thirsty dogs and there is a jar of treats on the counter for well-behaved visitors, which is a rarer setup than it should be. Because dogs can come inside, keep yours settled and on lead, especially at the busier lunch window. Seating is quiet and low-key on both sides of the door, so a nervous dog has room to relax rather than being hemmed in against foot traffic.

The cafe doubles as a supported workplace, and the kitchen is guided by a well-regarded local chef, so the food sits a step above standard suburban cafe fare: fresh breakfast and brunch plates, light lunches, sandwiches, wraps and sweet treats alongside barista coffee. It is a small operation with a feel-good reason behind every order, since sales directly fund training and employment for supported employees.

The cafe is at 5 Edney Lane, Spring Hill NSW 2500. Street and on-site parking is generally available around the cafe. It opens Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 2:30pm, and closes on weekends, so plan a weekday visit and check the day before you go.
