Jacob's Ladder Cafe is the busy local brunch spot on the corner of Compton Road and Condamine Street in Runcorn, known for hearty breakfast plates and serious coffee. Dogs take the outdoor tables out front, on lead, with the air-conditioned interior reserved for human guests under the usual Queensland rules. Ask when you arrive that the water bowl is coming, and settle your dog clear of the footpath, which carries school-hour and shopping traffic. It is a cafe visit rather than a long-lunch venue, so an easygoing dog that parks itself for forty minutes fits best.

Worth knowing

The coffee runs on Supreme Coffee across two blends, and the kitchen turns out generous, well-presented brunch plates: eggs benedict, salmon rosti, chicken pesto toasties and croissant sides. Hours run 6:30am to 2:30pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 2:30pm Saturday, closing Sundays, so this is strictly a breakfast-and-lunch stop. Weekday mornings before the brunch rush are the calmest with a dog.

Getting there and parking

The corner sits a short drive south of Sunnybank, with free street parking on Condamine Street plus an on-site lot, and the entry is wheelchair accessible. Runcorn train station is close by if you are walking a commute in.
