Nathan Road Park Fenced Dog Park

Nathan Road Park's fenced off-leash area is one of the larger dog parks in Brisbane's south, split into separate zones for big and small dogs so play stays matched to size. It is open 24 hours, which makes it a genuine option for early starts or after-work runs.

The rules. Off-leash play is restricted to inside the fenced perimeter. You still need voice or visual control of your dog at all times, and dogs must go back on lead once you leave the enclosure and cross the surrounding sports fields. Clean up after your dog and bring your own bags. The park uses a double-gated entry, close both gates behind you so nothing bolts while you are clipping the lead on or off.

What's there. The fenced area has agility equipment (ramps and weave poles), a sandpit for diggers, water taps and bowls for hydration, and shaded seating and picnic tables around the perimeter. It is split into large-dog and small-dog/puppy sections.

Getting there. The park is at 97 Nathan Road, Runcorn, reachable via Kurrajong Road or Gowan Road, with free street parking and a lot next to the sports fields. Translink buses stop near the corner of Gowan Road and Beutel Street, a short walk from the entrance, check current timetables before you rely on it.

Peak hour crowd tips. Weekends, especially Saturday and Sunday afternoons, draw the biggest crowds, which can overwhelm a nervous or small dog. Weekday afternoons between about 4:30pm and 6:30pm see a rush of locals after work. Late weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quietest windows. After rain the grass turns muddy quickly, so time your visit around dry spells if you want to keep a clean dog.

When to go. Aim for a weekday late morning or early afternoon if your dog needs space, or the after-work window if you want the park buzzing with other dogs to socialise with. Good for confident dogs that enjoy a busier, larger off-leash space, with a separate small-dog section for the more cautious ones.
