Calamvale Off Leash Dog Park

Calamvale Off Leash Dog Park is the fenced dog zone inside the much larger Calamvale District Park on Formby Street, in Brisbane's south. It is a genuinely big off leash space with separate fenced sections, and because it sits inside a district park you can build a whole morning around it: dog play first, playground and barbecues after.

The dog setup

The off leash enclosure is fully fenced and split so small dogs and large dogs get their own sections, which takes the guesswork out of busy visits. The ground is open, mostly flat grass with scattered trees for shade, and there are water bubblers for thirsty dogs plus shaded shelters and benches for the humans. Bins and bags are provided on site, though spares in the pocket never hurt. Brisbane City Council's standard expectations apply: keep your dog under effective control, in sight, with a leash on hand, and leash up again the moment you step outside the fenced zone.

Worth knowing

Families use this park heavily, so keep an eye on your dog around children inside the enclosure and be ready to leave if play gets too rough. Low-lying sections of the park can turn muddy or hold water after heavy rain, so check conditions when it has been wet. Midday sun is intense with limited shade over parts of the open grass, which makes early mornings the smarter slot on hot days.

Getting there and parking

Free off-street parking sits right on site, entered from Formby Street or Ormskirk Street, and the park is easy to reach from Compton Road or the Logan Motorway. Local bus routes stop within walking distance along the surrounding streets.

Make a day of it

The wider district park carries public toilets, a large adventure playground with a flying fox, a basketball half-court, electric barbecues under shelter, and paved paths that wind over boardwalks across small wetlands, handy for an on-lead cooldown lap.
