Calamvale Off Leash Dog Park is the fenced dog area inside the larger Calamvale District Park at 31 Formby Street, a genuinely big off-leash space, over two hectares of open grass, split into separate sections for small and large dogs.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash only once inside the fenced area itself. Keep your dog on-leash for the walk between the car park and the fenced gates. You are expected to keep your dog under voice control and in sight at all times, and to clean up after them, bins and bags are provided on-site. Families do use this park too, so keep a closer eye on your dog around children inside the fenced zone.

What's there. Two separate fenced sections mean you can choose the small-dog or large-dog side depending on your dog's size and temperament. There are water bubblers for dogs, shaded shelters and benches for owners, and plenty of open, flat grass with scattered trees for shade. The wider Calamvale District Park adds public toilets, a large adventure playground with a flying fox, and a basketball half-court if you have kids in tow.

Getting there. Free off-street parking is available right on site at 31 Formby Street. Local Brisbane City Council bus routes stop within walking distance on the surrounding residential streets, and the park is easy to reach from Compton Road or the Logan Motorway.

Watch-outs. Low-lying sections of the park can turn muddy, or flood, after heavy rain, so check conditions if it has been wet. Midday sun can get intense with limited shade in parts of the open grass, so early mornings suit hot days better.

Nearby with the dogs. A handful of cafes with outdoor, pet-friendly seating are around ten minutes away in Sunnybank Hills, and pet-friendly accommodation options can be found in the wider Sunnybank Hills and Logan Central area. Confirm pet policies directly before booking.

Weekday mornings, especially in spring or autumn, are the quietest and most comfortable times to visit. Weekends and the after-school run draw the biggest crowds, with Sunday the busiest day of the week.
