Algester Off Leash Dog Park

Algester Off Leash Dog Park sits inside Ridgewood Park on Brisbane's south side, reached off Ridgewood Road or Yorrell Street, and it has grown into a genuine social hub for the suburb. The fenced off-leash section sits inside a large open grass park, with a community of regulars that keeps it well used all week.

The dog setup

Off-leash is for the fenced, double-gated section only: everywhere else in the wider Ridgewood Park, and on the walk in from the street, dogs stay on a lead. Water stations and rubbish bins are inside the enclosure, with shaded seating for owners, though the running area itself is largely open to the sun, so midday visits in summer need a plan. Brisbane City Council's standard conditions apply: carry a lead, keep dogs under effective control, pick up waste, and keep aggressive, sick or in-heat dogs out. The grass can grow long between mows and gets muddy after rain, so a spare towel in the car is sensible.

The vibe

Saturday mornings and late afternoons are the busy windows, and the regular crowd is friendly by most accounts. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quiet stretches if your dog prefers space. Use the double gate properly: latch the first gate before opening the second so nobody slips out towards the road.

Drive in via Beenleigh Road to Ridgewood Road, Algester QLD 4115, where free street parking is plentiful. Bus routes 114, 115 and 117 stop within a short walk along Algester Road or Ridgewood Road.

Close by with the dogs

Milli & Mol's Espresso on Ridgewood Road has outdoor tables for the post-run coffee, and the Calamvale Off Leash Dog Park is nearby for a change of scenery. The Marnham Street Park Fenced Dog Park at Acacia Ridge is another enclosed option a few suburbs over.
