Botany, the plant-filled restaurant and bar at the Gasworks end of Newstead, has closed. The venue was a regular pick for dog owners in the suburb for its greenery-heavy outdoor courtyard, but it shut its doors in 2026 and the space has since been taken over by Neighbour, a neighbourhood pub from the Range Brewing team that opened in late August.

The dog setup, before the closure

Dogs were welcome in the outdoor courtyard and front seating area, leashed and settled in among the plants, with staff bringing water bowls on request. Indoor dining was for humans only. That made it one of the more relaxed courtyard options in Newstead, particularly for brunch and early dinners on the weekends.

Worth knowing

Neighbour is new enough that its pet policy is not yet firmly established. The covered terrace and outdoor seating at the old Botany footprint suggest the space remains workable with a dog, but check with the venue directly before planning a visit. The menu leans modern Australian pub classics, with Range's beers on tap.

Getting there and parking

The site sits in the Gasworks Plaza precinct. Street parking on Evesham Street and the surrounding residential streets is tight, so the Gasworks car park is the reliable backup. Busway and ferry options at Teneriffe are both a short walk away.

Close by with the dogs

For a proven dog-friendly table nearby, HG Newstead on Chester Street keeps a welcoming outdoor setup, and Yard Doggs in the Valley is an easy walk for a casual feed. After the meal, Waterfront Dog Park is a few minutes away for an off-leash run.
