Comida Hahndorf

Comida is a Spanish-inspired restaurant at 100C Mount Barker Road in Hahndorf, built around tapas, paella and wood-oven cooking. For anyone eating out with a dog, the draw is the space behind the dining room: an undercover back deck looking over what is said to be the largest outdoor garden area in Hahndorf, with a pizza oven, an outdoor bar and room for a dog to settle properly beside your table rather than squeezed against a chair leg.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome across the outdoor garden spaces and the deck, not indoors, and the house itself says dogs are part of the family here. The garden is generous and partly shaded, staff have been known to wander over with a pat and the occasional puppacino, and there is plenty of room to keep a dog on a lead comfortably clear of the next table. Bring a water bowl anyway if your dog is fussy.

Worth knowing

The kitchen runs proper Spanish food: tapas like patatas bravas with aioli and chilli jam, smoked chicken croquetas, paella and wood-oven pizza, plus sangria and a wine list covering both local and Spanish drops. There is live music at times. The week has an odd shape, closed Tuesdays, running to 4pm Monday and Sunday but later Wednesday to Saturday, so check hours before you commit to dinner.

Getting there and parking

There is a free car park near the venue and limited street parking along Mount Barker Road, which gets busy on weekends. Weekday afternoons are quieter, and a long relaxed lunch with a settled dog suits the garden best.

Close by with the dogs

The main street is an easy on-leash wander with plenty of shops happy to have a dog wait outside.
