Pilgrims Cronulla

Pilgrims is a long-standing vegetarian venue at 3 Surf Road, directly opposite South Cronulla Park with an ocean outlook from its street-front tables. Recently renovated and open seven days, it runs a fully vegetarian and vegan menu, and dogs are welcome at the pet-friendly outdoor tables on the ground floor, reached straight off the street.

The dog setup

Dogs sit at the ground-floor outdoor tables that open onto Surf Road, on lead and within the outdoor dining boundary. Water bowls are typically available and the staff are accommodating with dogs. The tables back onto the park side of the street, so there is room to settle, but keep the dog clear of the footpath flow on busy weekend mornings.

Worth knowing

The menu is entirely vegetarian and vegan, South Sydney's only full one when it reopened: the bliss burger and halloumi stack are the regulars, with acai bowls, falafel bowls, tofu wraps and fresh juices around them. Doors run 7:30am to 3pm daily, so this is a breakfast-and-lunch proposition, not dinner. The ocean view is the reason the room fills.

Getting there and parking

Metered street parking on Surf Road and nearby is limited and the South Cronulla beach car park opposite fills early. Coming by train, it is a short flat walk from Cronulla Station through the mall.

Close by with the dogs

South Cronulla Park is right across the road for a leash-on stroll and the coastal path runs along the front past Shelly Beach. For off-lead time, Greenhills Beach Dog Off Lead runs a morning window on the sand and Kurnell Dog Beach gives all-day access on the bay side. In the mall, Ham Harry & Mario is the other dog-tolerant brunch call.
