Miss Margarita

Miss Margarita is a busy Mexican cantina right at the top of Jonson Street, in the thick of town. It is an easy, casual stop for a margarita and tacos with the dog parked beside you, as long as you take an outdoor table.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the footpath and bench seating out front, on lead and settled beside you. Inside is off-limits, as standard for NSW food venues. The street-front position means heavy foot and road traffic, so keep your dog tucked in close and out of the walkway. Bring your own water bowl; staff are accommodating but it saves the wait.

Good to know. It is known for cocktails, the coconut and pineapple margaritas in particular, plus tacos and chips with guacamole in a loud, energetic room. The footpath tables are prime people-watching, which suits a calm dog and tests a reactive one.

Getting there. The address is 2 Jonson St, at the main intersection. Paid street parking on Jonson and Lawson Streets is usually full; the Woolworths and Coles lots a short walk away are a more reliable fallback.

Nearby with the dogs. Main Beach is a five to seven minute walk down Jonson Street on wide, dog-friendly footpaths, so you can run the legs out before or after a meal.

Go early evening if you want a footpath table before the dinner rush, and skip it with a nervous dog when the street is at its busiest.
