Zaza Kebabs

Zaza Kebabs is a walk-up counter on Jonson Street in the thick of central Byron Bay, open from 10am and trading past midnight most nights, to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. For dog owners it solves a specific problem: a fast, fresh feed when everything sit-down has either closed or will not take a dog, with footpath tables out front where a leashed dog can settle beside you.

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor footpath seating directly in front of the shop, on lead. The indoor counter area is people-only as a food premises. Be realistic about the space: this is a footpath strip, not a courtyard, so it suits a quick bite rather than a long dinner. Carry your own water bowl, since this is a takeaway operation rather than a full-service cafe.

Worth knowing

The menu covers kebabs and falafel wraps, snack packs, gozleme, fish and chips, calamari and cheesy chips, with a reputation for generous serving sizes and a friendly crew. The late hours are the real draw: after an evening on the beach or a night in town, this is one of the few places still serving. Peak hours bring a queue and a busy footpath, so keep nervous dogs clear of the flow.

Getting there and parking

The shop sits on Jonson Street, walkable from most of central Byron. Street parking on Jonson and the side streets is tight at peak, with the paid Lawson Street car park a couple of minutes away as a fallback. Walking in from your accommodation is simpler than driving.

Close by with the dogs
