The Verandah Beecroft

The Verandah Beecroft is the dining venue at Beecroft Bowling Club, set at 128 Copeland Road with tables looking straight out over the bowling greens. It is a relaxed, light-filled bistro doing pub-style plates, and the shaded outdoor veranda and terrace have become the suburb's easy answer to lunch or dinner with a dog in tow.

The dog setup

Leashed dogs are welcome across the outdoor veranda and terrace seating that overlooks the greens. Access is usually possible directly from outside, so you can skip the walk through the main indoor dining room entirely. Staff are used to four-legged visitors and will often bring out a water bowl, though carrying a travel bowl removes any doubt. Keep your dog on the lead and settled; this is a busy club bistro, not a dog park.

Max: grab a terrace table late afternoon and the veranda shade does the work while your dog watches the bowlers.

Worth knowing

The kitchen runs Wednesday to Sunday from late morning into the evening, with Mondays and Tuesdays closed. The menu is casual club dining: schnitzels, prawn tacos, steaks and salads, and it handles family birthdays and functions, so weekends can be loud and full. Book if you want a specific outdoor table.

Getting there and parking

The club has its own car park off Copeland Road, with residential street parking nearby when it is busy. Beecroft village and its station are a pleasant flat stroll away, so you can walk in from the train if you would rather not drive.

Close by with the dogs

Before lunch, let the dog loose at Cheltenham Park dog off leash area, a few minutes' drive down Beecroft Road. Back in the village, Cafe Long Shot and Chicken and Fishhead cover the dog-friendly coffee end of Beecroft.
