Chicken & Fishhead - Cafe and Store

Chicken & Fishhead pairs a neighbourhood cafe with a boutique store at 1-3 Wongala Crescent, Beecroft, right beside the railway station and looking over the park on the opposite side of the road. It is fully licensed, runs from 7am on weekdays, and pulls in a loyal local crowd from the Beecroft village precinct. The cafe is a common waypoint for locals doing the morning dog lap of the village.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating areas out front, which have room to settle a dog at your feet while you eat. The indoor cafe and the attached retail store are for people only. Staff are accommodating and used to dogs at the footpath tables, and the wide, flat footpaths around the village make arriving on a leash easy. If you are coming on a Sunday, note that service is usually limited to takeaway drinks and pastries, so plan a walk-and-grab rather than a sit-down.

Worth knowing

The menu covers breakfast, brunch and lunch with generous portions, and the kitchen runs Friday night dinner service as well. Coffee is roasted by Sacred Grounds, and the bar pours wine, beer and cocktails for those staying on. The chicken dishes are a house signature. Next door, the store side sells women's and children's clothing, toys, jewellery and homewares, open 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday.

Getting there and parking

Beecroft Station is immediately alongside, so the T9 rail line drops you at the door. By car, street parking is available along Wongala Crescent and through Beecroft village. The cafe keeps later hours Thursday to Friday, and Saturday runs to late afternoon.

Close by with the dogs

The park across the road suits a short leg-stretch before coffee. For a proper off-lead run, West Epping Park Dog Park and the fenced Greenway Park Dog Park at Cherrybrook are both a short drive away. Long Shot Cafe is the other dog-friendly coffee stop in the village, and bHive serves dinner nearby.
