Greenway Park Fenced Dog Park

Greenway Park Fenced Dog Park is the council-managed off-leash enclosure inside the Greenway Park sporting complex on Shepherds Drive, Cherrybrook. It is one of the busier dog parks in Sydney's Hills District, and the reason is simple: a fully fenced natural-grass yard with double-gated entries, a water tap and waste bins, run by Hornsby Shire Council and open around the clock.

The dog setup

The enclosure is a single fully fenced space on natural grass, entered through double gates so there is no dash for the street when someone arrives or leaves. Inside there is a water tap for refilling bowls, waste bins near the entries, and a mix of open running room and play equipment that gives energetic dogs something more than flat laps. A small rain shelter offers cover when the weather turns. If your dog needs a slower start, the perimeter walking track around the wider Greenway Park complex is handy for an on-leash warm-up before you go through the gates.

Worth knowing

The ground slopes noticeably, which is part of the park's appeal for owners of high-energy breeds and a regular spot for casual dog training, but older or stiffer dogs may prefer to stay on the flatter sections near the entrance. After heavy rain the natural grass gets muddy, so a towel in the car saves your upholstery. Shade is partial, coming from the trees around the edge rather than across the whole yard, so bring extra water through a Sydney summer. There is no separate small-dog section at this stage; locals have raised the idea with council, but for now all sizes share the one enclosure.

The park sits alongside the broader sporting facilities, which gives the place a friendly community feel; expect company on weekday mornings and weekends, and expect to meet regulars who keep an eye out for each other's dogs.
