Ruddock Park Fenced Dog Park

Ruddock Park Fenced Dog Park is a fully fenced, shaded off-leash area on Eucalyptus Drive in Westleigh, run by Hornsby Shire Council as part of the wider Ruddock Park. The fencing is the drawcard: a genuinely secure space to let dogs run without watching for a bolt for the street, in a suburb otherwise short of enclosed options.

The dog setup

The enclosure gets decent natural shade from established trees, has benches for owners and a water point for dogs on hot days. Regulars tend to leave tennis balls behind, so there is often a stash on site. Dogs run off-leash inside the fence but must be leashed again the moment you step into the rest of Ruddock Park, including the picnic areas, playground and car park.

Hornsby Shire rules apply: effective voice control and sight of your dog even inside the fenced zone, re-attach the leash before opening the gate to leave, and no rushing, mobbing or harassing other dogs or people. Clean up immediately, and bring your own bags in case the dispensers are empty.

Max: watch the gate when you arrive. Fenced parks see a lot of dogs coming and going, so hold a firm leash until you are through and can read the room before letting go.

The vibe

Weekday mornings and midday are the quiet windows, useful if your dog is nervous around crowds. Weekends and weekday afternoons draw more traffic. The wider park has been upgraded in recent years and carries a pirate-themed playground, tennis courts, BBQs, picnic tables and public toilets, which makes it easy to split time between dogs and kids. Council occasionally re-turfs sections of the dog park, which can temporarily change the ground underfoot.

Getting there and parking

Parking is easy along Eucalyptus Drive right beside the enclosure, with more on Quarter Sessions Road and the surrounding streets. Westleigh is a residential pocket off Pennant Hills Road, so most visitors drive, though bus stops sit on the surrounding streets.

Close by with the dogs

Six and Seven is the local coffee stop in the suburb itself, and The Monday Morning Cafe at Thornleigh is a short drive up the road. For a second run, Brickpit Park Fenced Dog Park and Thornleigh Dog Park are both nearby.
