Burdekin Rooftop

Burdekin Rooftop is the open-air top floor of the historic Burdekin Hotel on the corner of Oxford Street, Darlinghurst, looking over the city towards Hyde Park. Dogs are welcome in the open-air rooftop space, which makes it one of the more scenic led-friendly spots on the strip.

The dog setup

Dogs belong on the rooftop deck, not in the indoor bar or the floors below. The welcome is informal rather than a written policy, so treat it as a ring-ahead venue: book a table, confirm your dog is fine for that day, and ask how busy the session is. The rooftop runs events through the week and on weekends it can be packed and loud, which matters if your dog is not comfortable in a crowd. Bring a water bowl in case one is not offered.

Max: Saturday afternoon with a breeze, dog flat under the table, cocktails on the way. Perfect. But we checked about the event night first, and glad we did.

The vibe

A rooftop with a wide view over Oxford Street and the city skyline, cocktails, a serious wine list and Italian leaning pub food. It is Darlinghurst social: dressed up but relaxed, busier after dark, and at its most dog-friendly in the quieter afternoon sessions. Opening hours run Wednesday to Saturday, so plan around the closed days early in the week.

Getting there and parking

Street parking around Darlinghurst is tight and expensive; the sensible options are paid parking near St Marys Cathedral or on Goulburn Street, or leaving the car and walking from Museum Station or an Oxford Street bus stop.

Hyde Park sits directly across the road for the pre-drink walk, and the compact Rosebank Park is close by too. For other led-friendly pubs, Taphouse Sydney pours craft beer a few blocks away and Forrester's has a big courtyard over in Surry Hills.
