Forrester's

Forrester's, known to locals as the Forry, is a restored corner pub at Riley and Foveaux Streets in Surry Hills, and it is one of the few Sydney pubs that welcomes dogs across the entire venue rather than just the footpath out front. Doors open from 11:30am daily, staying open past midnight from Thursday to Saturday.

The dog setup

Per the pub's own dog-friendly page, dogs are welcome throughout, including the public and saloon bars, the Art Room, the Phylli's restaurant space, the balcony and the garden. Dogs stay on a lead and need to be friendly and under control, and the pub keeps water bowls and treats on hand.

There is a Yappy Hour each Tuesday and a Dog Wall of Fame where regular canine visitors end up on the wall. If you are bringing a bigger dog or turning up for a peak dinner service, book a table and mention the dog so staff can seat you somewhere with room.

Max: the covered garden and Phylli's are the picks when weather turns, because the street-facing deck gets exposed. Whatever the season, this is one of the few inner-city pubs where rain does not cancel the plans.

The vibe

It is a big, busy corner pub best known for the Sunday roast served in a giant Yorkshire pudding, alongside schnitzels, chicken wings and a serious drinks list. Live music runs Friday and Saturday nights with trivia midweek, so expect atmosphere rather than a quiet corner, especially on weekends.

Getting there

It is a short, flat walk from Central Station and from the Crown Street strip. Street parking around Riley Street is metered and competitive, so coming by train or on foot is the easier call.

While you're out there

For an off-lead run before or after lunch, Ward Park and Frog Hollow Reserve on Riley Street are both close by. If you are making a pub crawl of it, The Clock on Crown Street is another dog-friendly Surry Hills pub with a courtyard.
