The Elephant British Pub

The Elephant is an authentic British pub at 1 Cinema Place, the small lane off Rundle Street in Adelaide's East End, pouring a long list of English and Scottish beer alongside classic pub food. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables in the laneway, which makes it an easy stop after a wander through the East End with the dog.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the laneway tables outside, not inside the pub. Keep them on lead, settled under the table and out of the path of staff and other drinkers, since the lane is tight and busy at night. City bars often have water on hand, but a collapsible bowl removes the guesswork.

The vibe

The beer list is the point: a couple of dozen taps running British staples such as Old Speckled Hen and Tennent's beside Guinness, matched with pork roasts, schnitzels and crumbed fish. The room inside is small and cosy, so on a busy Friday or Saturday the laneway tables are both the dog spot and the best seat in the house. Hours run from 11:30am, closing at 10pm Monday to Wednesday, midnight Thursday and around 2am Friday and Saturday, closed Sundays.

Max: aim for an early evening slot. The laneway is relaxed and dog-friendly until the late crowd arrives, then it becomes a different pub entirely.

Getting there and parking

Cinema Place sits between Rundle and Flinders Streets, a short walk from Rundle Mall and the free city Connector loop. On-street parking nearby is scarce and paid, so the practical option is UPark on Rundle Street or Wilson Parking at Hindmarsh Square, both a couple of minutes away.
