Wyee Dog Exercise Area

Wyee Dog Exercise Area, also known locally as Wyee Oval, is an off-leash field at 11 Tuggerah Street, Wyee, on Lake Macquarie City Council land. It is a genuine off-leash run, not just a park with a dog-friendly reputation, but the window is short: mornings only on weekdays.

The rules. Off-leash access runs sunrise to 10am on weekdays only, per Lake Macquarie City Council's off-leash areas listing. Outside that window dogs must be leashed to enter or leave the area. Dogs need to be under effective voice control and in sight of their owner at all times, and any dog showing aggression or antisocial behaviour must be leashed and removed straight away. Off-leash use can also be suspended when the oval is booked for organised sport, so it pays to check before you drive over on a weekend. Bring bags and clean up, as always.

What's there. An open grassy field big enough for ball games, with shaded seating for owners and lighting for early or late visits. Free parking is close by and there are toilets in the vicinity. It is a dry land exercise area only, with no water on site.

Getting there. The oval sits off Summerhayes Road, near the Wyee Community Centre. Wyee Railway Station on the Central Coast and Newcastle line is within walking distance, handy if you are coming without a car.

Nearby with the dogs. Leefy Cafe on Wyee Road has outdoor seating for a coffee afterwards. For a water option, Buttaba Foreshore Reserve allows off-leash dogs and is a short drive further round the lake if the oval's morning-only window does not suit your schedule.

Best visited early, between sunrise and about 9am on a weekday, before the 10am leash rule kicks in and before school-holiday crowds arrive. Good for owners who want a proper off-leash run rather than a stroll, and who can work around the short window.
