Biv's Coffeehouse sits at the top end of Dora Street, Morisset's main strip, and has become the suburb's default coffee stop thanks to consistently well-rated coffee, a warm crew behind the counter and a famously dog-friendly attitude. The fit-out is cosy rather than big, the back area has been recently renovated, and the whole operation runs on early hours: 6am opens on weekdays and 7am on weekends, with a mid-afternoon close that has shifted between 1pm and 2pm, so check their socials before a late lunch run.

The dog setup

The outdoor seating is the reliable option with a dog on lead, and water bowls are usually on hand if you ask. The resident shop dog, Jake, often holds court around the place, so a dog that gets on with other dogs will fit right in. Staff have been known to welcome well-behaved dogs beyond the outdoor area, but confirm at the counter rather than assuming. There is no dedicated dog menu; the accommodation comes from the staff, not the kitchen, and it is genuine.

Worth knowing

The coffee earns the loudest praise from regulars, and the breakfast and lunch menu covers the standards well: almond croissants, raisin toast, hash browns and a bacon and egg roll that keeps the tradie queue moving. Online ordering through their Square site skips the wait. The flat strip and free street parking along Dora Street make arriving with a dog about as easy as it gets.

The Morisset dog exercise area is a short drive away for a proper off leash run, with dogs permitted off lead at Gibson Oval outside organised sport, under Lake Macquarie council rules.
