Columbia Park Dog Off Leash Area

The short version. Columbia Park is a local Wheelers Hill reserve off Columbia Drive with a designated off-leash area on open grass, some of it shaded. It sits next to a playground, pavilion and local schools, so it is a community-focused spot rather than a secure enclosed dog park.

The rules. Dogs must be under effective voice or hand control at all times off-leash, and you must carry a leash. Lead up within 20 metres of the playground and any barbecue or picnic areas, and keep dogs off the sportsground during organised training or matches. Clean up after your dog; this is a City of Monash off-leash area with the two-dogs-per-person cap. Bins are usually provided but carry your own bags in case.

What is there. Open grass with shaded seating, a pavilion, a children's playground and walking tracks. Parts of the reserve are partially fenced, though it is not a fully enclosed secure park. Accessible parking gives direct access to the park area.

Getting there. Access is via Columbia Drive, Wheelers Hill. The nearest buses run along Jells Road or Wellington Road, leaving a short walk in.

Nearby with the dogs. The Wheelers Hill Shopping Centre a couple of minutes' drive away has cafes with outdoor tables, and Jells Road Reserve is close for another off-leash run.

When to go. Weekday mid-mornings and early afternoons give you the most space; weekend mornings and after-school and after-work hours are busiest, with sport training on some evenings.
