Lum Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

The short version. Lum Reserve is a large community park off Watsons Road in Wheelers Hill, with an unfenced off-leash area on the open grass around the central oval. It has room to run and throw a ball, plus a concrete perimeter path for on-leash laps. The catch: dogs are off the oval when organised sport is on, so timing matters.

The rules. Dogs must be under effective voice control in the off-leash grass, and on-leash in the bushland sections and near the playground and tennis-court zones. Stay off the sportsground oval entirely during organised training or matches. Carry a leash at all times, clean up after your dog, and note the City of Monash two-dogs-per-person cap. Bins are provided on-site.

What is there. Open grass with scattered shade trees around the oval, a concrete perimeter path good for on-leash walking, a recently upgraded playground (on-leash zone), a pavilion, cricket nets and bench seating. Car parking sits near the pavilion off Watsons Road.

Getting there. The address is Watsons Road, Wheelers Hill, easily reached via Brandon Park Drive or Ferntree Gully Road near the Wheelers Hill Shopping Centre. Several bus routes run along the surrounding main roads, with a stop near the reserve on Watsons Road.

Nearby with the dogs. The Wheelers Hill Shopping Centre a short drive away has cafes with outdoor tables, and Jells Road Reserve to the east adds extensive trail walking.

When to go. Weekday afternoons and evenings bring sport training, and weekend mornings draw the social crowd; weekday mornings are the quietest run. Good for active dogs that need space.
