Springvale Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Springvale Reserve Fenced Dog Park occupies a triangular enclosure in the north-east corner of Springvale Reserve, near the Harris Street and Lewis Street corner in Melbourne's south-east. Under City of Greater Dandenong rules it is the one spot in the reserve where dogs run off lead, and the double-gate entry makes it a genuinely secure space rather than an open reserve with a sign.

The dog setup

Secure perimeter fencing wraps the whole triangle, with mature shade trees inside and an onsite water tap for dogs. The double-gate airlock is the important part: latch the outer gate before you open the inner one, so there is no gap for a dog to slip out while you are sorting leads.

Off lead still means under reliable voice control, you stay with your dog, and you pick up after them. The rest of Springvale Reserve, including the sports oval, cricket nets and pavilion areas, is on lead and off limits during fixtures.

Max: the double gate is the whole point of the place. Latch the outer, then the inner. It is easy to rush on a first visit and that is exactly when a keen dog makes a break for it.

Getting there

The park is on Harris Street with on-street parking on the surrounding roads, and Springvale Station is a short walk away, which makes it one of the easier fenced parks to reach by train. Public toilets sit near the reserve pavilion.

Close by with the dogs

Springvale Road has a run of cafes with outdoor seating a few minutes away, and Cafe Vita et Flores is the local dog-friendly pick. If you want a second run, the Warner Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is the nearby unfenced open-style option, while the Lightwood Road Fenced Dog Park in Noble Park is another fully fenced choice a short drive north.
