Café Vita et flores - Springvale

Cafe Vita et Flores sits inside the grounds of the Springvale Botanical Cemetery, the largest cemetery in the southern hemisphere, alongside an on-site florist. It is an unexpected one: a proper licensed cafe with a serious coffee program and a garden dining room, where dogs take the outdoor tables that look onto one of Melbourne's great garden landscapes.

The cafe runs 8.30am to 4pm on weekdays and 9am to 4pm on weekends, breakfast until midday on weekdays and 1pm on weekends, lunch from 11am to 3pm. The staff handle memorial catering at the Clarence Reardon Centre, so expect a professional operation rather than a cafe-by-the-park vibe.

The cemetery's main entrance is off Princes Highway at Springvale, with parking at the Clarence Reardon Centre and around the office precinct. Springvale station is a short drive away, and the cemetery's garden roads welcome on-leash walks with a dog, as long as attendance at services is respected.

Close by with the dogs

For off-lead time nearby, the Springvale Reserve Fenced Dog Park and the Warner Reserve Dog Off Leash Area are both a few minutes' drive, with the Lightwood Road Fenced Dog Park towards Noble Park.
