Lightwood Road Fenced Dog Park

Lightwood Road Fenced Dog Park is a small, fully fenced off-leash park built directly under the elevated Pakenham and Cranbourne rail line in Noble Park. The overpass gives it built-in shade and a secure double-gated enclosure of roughly 130 metres, which makes it a neighbourhood-scale run rather than a sprawling reserve, and a good fit for small to medium dogs or a quick off-leash session.

Leash status

It is a City of Greater Dandenong off-leash area, open 24 hours. Dogs need to be at least four months old to use public off-leash areas, wear current registration tags, and stay within 50 metres of you under effective voice or hand control. Carry a lead at all times, close both sets of double gates behind you, and if a dog turns unruly or aggressive, leash it and leave. Keep dogs leashed outside the enclosure.

Water and terrain

Inside the fence there is grass, a large log for agility and sniffing, bench seats, and a water tap with a lower dog bowl attachment. The rail structure overhead shades much of the run. Unshaded tables sit outside the fence, and there is no toilet inside the enclosure, with the nearest public toilets in the main Ross Reserve complex a few minutes away.

Getting there and parking

The park sits off Lightwood Road, on the edge of Ross Reserve. Locals park in the rear car parks behind the Noble Park Aquatic Centre and walk the back path down, which avoids crossing the main road with a dog. Noble Park station on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines is an easy walk.

Worth knowing

The defining quirk is the trains. The park sits right under the rail overpass and services rumble past close and loud, so if your dog is noise-sensitive, do one short off-peak visit before committing to a longer session. Weekday mornings and post-work hours are the busiest windows; a timid dog does better mid-morning on weekdays.
