Fotheringham Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Fotheringham Reserve sits on the Noble Park and Dandenong North boundary along Yarraman Creek, and its off-leash area is one of the roomier options in Greater Dandenong. Around 16 hectares of open reserve with remnant River Red Gum woodland gives big dogs a genuine run, and the Eastlink Trail runs along the reserve's edge if you want to turn a visit into a longer walk.

The dog setup

The off-leash zone is partially fenced. The western side has a barrier separating it from Eastlink, but the south-west and north-west corners are open, so it is not fully escape-proof. If your dog is unreliable with a boundary, treat this as a supervised voice-control park rather than a secure yard, or pick a fully fenced option nearby. There is a water tap with a bowl, waste bins and shade from the native trees across the roughly 140 by 40 metre grass space.

Under City of Greater Dandenong rules, dogs off leash must stay within 50 metres and under effective voice or hand-signal control, with a leash carried at all times. If club or school sport is on the ovals, dogs go back on lead. Keep at least 20 metres from playground equipment and the shared cycling path unless a fence of 1.2 metres or higher separates them.

Max: check the corners before you unclip. The reserve feels fenced until you reach the open south-west gap near the creek line.

The vibe

This is a quiet neighbourhood reserve rather than a destination dog park. Weekdays and Saturday evenings are the still times, with Tuesday and Thursday evenings drawing a moderate regular crowd. Because the space is large, dogs keep plenty of distance from each other even when a few groups are out at once.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits at 4 Alexander Avenue, near the Alexander Avenue and Alsace Street corner. Street parking is available along Alexander Avenue. Yarraman station is about 900 metres away on foot, and bus routes 800, 811 and 812 stop nearby if you are coming without a car.

Close by with the dogs

Lightwood Road Fenced Dog Park is the fully enclosed alternative if the open corners are a dealbreaker, and Barry J Powell Reserve in Noble Park North is another sloped off-leash option a few minutes away.
