The dog setup

Off-leash applies inside the fenced enclosure only; the broader reserve stays on-lead. City of Greater Dandenong rules require you to stay within 50 metres of your dog and keep them under effective voice or hand-signal control, and dogs are prohibited off-leash within 20 metres of playgrounds or wherever school or club sport is running. Pick up after your dog and use the bins. Inside, open grassy fields suit fetch and sprint games, and toys are welcome.

The vibe

The practical kit is here: a drinking fountain with an attached dog bowl, park benches, a picnic table and the creek corridor adding a green backdrop to the run. It is busiest on weekday evenings from about 4.30pm to 6pm and on weekend mornings. For a quieter visit, aim for weekday mid-morning, roughly 10am to 1pm, which is the best window for a shy dog finding its feet.

Max: the enclosure is the off-leash zone, not the whole reserve. Unclip inside the gate, and if a game starts up on neighbouring grounds, give the 20 metre rule some extra margin.

The reserve sits around 66-80 Keneally Street, with the most direct enclosure access via Steven Street, and street parking nearby. Dandenong Station is the nearest train stop, a short drive or a reasonable walk, and local bus routes service the area.
