Haughton Road Fenced Dog Park

Haughton Road Fenced Dog Park is a small, fully fenced off-leash park on the corner of Orchid Street and Haughton Road in Clayton South, right beside the Skyrail line. It is a no-fuss local option rather than a destination park: a turfed, part-gravel yard where the gate, the water tap and the bins are all you really need for a solid off-leash session, any hour of the day.

The dog setup

The park is run under City of Kingston rules as a fully enclosed off-leash space. Inside the fence you will find a dog water tap, picnic-table style seating and benches, and lighting that has been updated, which makes early morning and after-dark visits workable. Even off lead, your dog should stay under effective voice control, and it is worth clipping the leash back on if the yard gets busy or another dog is showing stress. The entrance and parking are wheelchair accessible, and bins are provided for clean-up.

Max: the fence here is on the low side. If your dog is a jumper or an escape artist, walk the boundary with them first rather than assuming it will hold.

Worth knowing

This park backs onto a busy road and active train tracks, so it suits dogs that are relaxed around noise and not prone to pacing the fence line. The ground can turn to mud after rain, so pack a towel for the car. Locals report it is quieter on Sunday afternoons and Monday mornings, and busier on Sunday evenings and midweek afternoons. It is best thought of as a quick, secure run close to home rather than a day out.

The park sits directly on Haughton Road, but the easiest parking is usually via Brown's Lane or the adjacent football club car park rather than pulling up on Haughton Road itself. If you are coming by train, it is an easy walk from Clayton Station on the Frankston, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines.
