Jells Road Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

The short version. Jells Road Reserve is an open grassy off-leash strip in Wheelers Hill, sitting between the Wheelers Hill Tennis Club courts and Jells Road, with the Scotchmans Creek Trail running through it. It is a handy daily-exercise patch rather than a fenced dog park, and it opens straight onto a main road, so recall matters here.

The rules. Dogs are off-leash in the designated area between the tennis club and Jells Road, but must be on-leash within 10 metres of the Scotchmans Creek Trail on either side. Effective voice control applies at all times off-leash, and dogs are not allowed in the nearby playground. Clean up after your dog; this is a City of Monash off-leash area with the usual two-dogs-per-person cap.

What is there. Open grass, bench seating, waste bins and direct access to the paved Scotchmans Creek Trail for an on-leash walk or ride. Accessible parking is listed near the tennis club. It is a straightforward, no-frills local space.

Getting there. The address is 75 Jells Road, Wheelers Hill, with street parking on Jells Road and the surrounding residential streets. Several bus routes serve Jells Road and Ferntree Gully Road, leaving a short walk to the reserve.

Nearby with the dogs. The larger Jells Park sits just east, though dogs are on-leash there, so it is best for a walk plus outdoor cafe tables. For another local run, Lum Reserve is close by.

When to go. It fills on Monday afternoons, Thursday mornings and Saturday evenings; midweek mornings are the calmest. Best saved for well-trained dogs given the open road frontage.
