The short version. This is the off-leash run on the grassy flat south of the Glen Waverley Sports Hub car park, tucked in alongside the golf course off Waverley Road. It is open, unfenced parkland with mature shade trees, and the one thing that decides whether it suits your dog is recall: there is no barrier between the grass and the road or the golf greens.

The rules. Dogs must be under effective voice or hand control at all times while off-leash. Lead up in the surrounding car parks and on the connecting paths, and pick up after your dog. This is a City of Monash off-leash area, so the council cap of two dogs per person applies. Because nothing is fenced, keep dogs with shaky recall on a long line rather than loose near Waverley Road.

What is there. Open, well-drained grass with scattered shade trees and bench seating for owners. Poo-bag dispensers and a drinking-water point are usually on hand, though it is worth carrying your own bags in case a dispenser is empty. The upgraded Sports Hub facilities and pro shop sit right next door if you need a coffee or a toilet.

Getting there. The address is 915 Waverley Road, Glen Waverley, with sealed parking at the Sports Hub South car park. On public transport, the 737 and 742 buses both stop within a short walk along Waverley Road.

Nearby with the dogs. Mocha Jo's Cafe & Brunch on Kingsway does shaded outdoor tables and puppuccinos, a quick drive away. For another local run, Brandon Park Reserve is close by.

When to go. Weekend mornings and weekday late afternoons draw the local crowd; a weekday mid-morning is the calm window. Good for confident, sociable dogs with solid recall.
