Bogong Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Bogong Reserve is a small patch of native scrub tucked behind the Monash Men's Shed on Bogong Avenue in Glen Waverley, with a grassy clearing at its centre. It is a designated dog off-leash area under City of Monash rules, open around the clock, but it is not fenced, so this is a spot for a relaxed sniffing wander rather than a full-tilt game of fetch.

Off-leash, unfenced

The reserve is open for off-leash exercise 24 hours a day, with the usual Monash conditions: your dog needs effective voice or hand control, you carry a lead at all times, and dogs go back on-lead within 20 metres of play equipment that is in use. The shared paved paths through the reserve are on-lead zones. Because the reserve sits against bushland and a small wetland with no fence at the perimeter, a reliable recall matters before you unclip. Wildlife, the creek line and the road edges are all reasons a steady dog does better here.

The vibe

This is a local's park rather than a destination. Expect native vegetation, bench seating, a small playground, and a wetland area close by, with a calm feel for most of the day. There are no dog water fountains and the bag dispensers are not reliably stocked, so bring water, a bowl and your own bags, and take rubbish out with you. It suits calm dogs and owners who want a quiet loop among the trees rather than a social off-leash scene.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 12 to 16 Bogong Avenue, with limited street parking near the Men's Shed. If you would rather skip the car, it is a short walk from Glen Waverley Station on the Glen Waverley line, and buses run along nearby Springvale Road and Kingsway.

If Bogong's clearing is occupied or the dog wants more distance, several solid options sit within a few minutes' drive. Damper Creek Reserve in Mount Waverley has designated off-leash zones along a bushy creek line, and Jells Road Reserve at Wheelers Hill gives you more open space to move around in. Closer to home, Glen Waverley North Reserve is another unfenced off-leash option in the same suburb.
