Mt Waverley Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Mt Waverley Reserve is an open, unfenced off-leash space within the Mount Waverley Linear Reserve under City of Monash, with established trees, sealed paths and long strips of grass linking through to the Heany Street and Beverley Grove sections. The draw is room to roam, not enclosure.

The dog setup

Dogs may be off-leash across the designated reserve provided they are under effective voice or hand control and you carry a lead. Monash rules mean leashing up within 20 metres of any playground or barbecue, within 10 metres of major shared paths, and staying off the sports ground whenever training or matches are running.

Bring your own waste bags; council bins are provided through the reserve. Paved walking trails suit on-lead strolls and there is bench seating along the way, with the Waverley Community Learning Centre sitting alongside. The tree cover throws useful shade across the middle sections in summer.

Worth knowing

The layout is open and linear rather than contained, so keep recall sharp where walkers and cyclists pass on the shared paths. It suits a relaxed walk with off-lead stretches rather than a contained run-around, and dogs that bolt near traffic or bikes will need a line. After heavy rain the low ground beside the path holds water, so expect a few muddy patches on the usual circuit.

Getting there and parking

Drive in via Stephensons Road or Blackburn Road with off-street parking on Heany Street, or catch a bus along Stephensons Road. Mount Waverley Station on the Glen Waverley line is a short walk away, which makes the reserve an easy train-and-walk outing from the eastern suburbs.

Max: aim for mid-morning on a weekday. Early mornings and late afternoons get busy with commuters and school runs, and a shared path crowd is not the moment to practise a rusty recall.
