Heany Street Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Heany Street Reserve is a narrow off-leash strip in Mount Waverley, part of the Mount Waverley Linear Reserve managed by the City of Monash. It runs north to south with a central sealed path, grassy verges and mature trees, fenced along its long sides by the backs of residential properties. The catch: the street ends are open, so this is a recall park rather than an enclosed one.

The dog setup

Dogs may be off-leash under effective voice or hand control, with a lead carried at all times and leashing required within 20 metres of any playground. The open ends, particularly the southern end near Waverley Road, sit close to busy traffic, so dogs without reliable recall should stay on lead near the boundaries. Monash's off-leash rules apply, and on-site signage governs.

What is there

There is a flat, accessible concrete path good for everyday walks, a water tap with a bowl near the McLochlan Street end, bench seating and a waste bin with bags. Shade is limited and there are no public toilets.

Max: the open street ends are the thing to watch here. If your dog is a wanderer, clip the lead back on as you near Waverley Road.

Getting there and parking

Parking sits at the southern Heany Street end, and the reserve is an easy local walk from the surrounding streets though not right beside a station.

If the open ends are a dealbreaker, Damper Creek Reserve Dog Off Leash Area offers bushier walking in the same suburb, and Federal Reserve Dog Off Leash Area adds a drinking fountain and toilets near its playground. Son of Tucci Cafe is the local coffee stop for the walk home.
