Scotchmans Run Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

The short version. Scotchmans Run Reserve is a spacious, well-kept grassy off-leash reserve at 16 Estelle Street, Oakleigh. It is a quiet, large open space to let a dog stretch out, with tree-lined paths that link through to nearby Brickmakers Park if you want a longer loop.

The rules. Dogs can be off-leash in the designated open area but must be under effective voice control at all times. Keep them leashed when entering and leaving the reserve, and within 10 metres of the playground and picnic areas. Bins are provided, so pick up after your dog.

What is there. A large open grass field alongside a soccer pitch and cricket nets, paved walkways, floodlights that make evening visits workable, and public toilets on-site. The grass holds up well most of the year but turns muddy after winter rain, so pack a towel in the wet months.

Getting there. There is ample on-street parking along Estelle Street, with easy access off the Princes Highway. On public transport, it is a moderate walk from Oakleigh or Hughesdale stations, and bus routes run along Warrigal Road and Atherton Road nearby.

When to go. Early mornings and weekday middays are the quietest. It gets busier on weekday evenings and Saturday afternoons when local sport and dog walkers overlap. Come early on a weekend for the field close to yourself. Good for dogs who want genuine open space rather than a small fenced pen.
