The short version. Jack Edwards Reserve is a fenced off-leash area wrapped around busy sports pitches on Edward Street, Oakleigh, a short walk from Huntingdale Station. The draw is the secure perimeter: your dog can run the grassy verges and path with a fence between them and the traffic.

The rules. Off-leash applies to the perimeter paths and grassy verges only. Dogs must be on-leash in spectator areas and are not allowed on the synthetic pitch at any time. Keep your dog under effective voice control, particularly near the fenced pitches when games are on. Bins are provided, so clean up after your dog.

Heads up on the upgrade. Monash Council has major works scheduled across 2026-2027, adding agility zones, better grass, irrigation and new fencing. That means temporary closures and reduced space during construction (staged from around April 2026 into early 2027). Check the Shape Monash page before you make a special trip, because usable space shrinks while works are underway.

What is there. Full perimeter fencing, good natural shade from mature trees, and an upgraded drinking fountain with a dog bowl near the pavilion. Public toilets are available at the sports complex, and there is on-site parking off Edward Street.

Getting there. Parking sits at the sports complex off Edward Street. On public transport, it is a short walk from Huntingdale Station on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines. The paths are wheelchair accessible.

When junior sport is running on the pitches, the perimeter fills with families and kids darting about. If your dog is reactive to that, come on a weekday morning instead of a weekend.

When to go. Weekday mornings and early afternoons before school pickup give you the most open space. Weekend mornings are the busiest, and during the 2026 works even quiet times will feel tight. Good for dogs who like a secure run without a full open field.
