Code Five at 90 View Mount Road is Wheelers Hill's busiest brunch cafe, a modern room with a large local following and an eclectic kitchen known for chilli scrambled eggs, okonomiyaki, shakshuka and rosti. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor and undercover tables, which makes it a regular stop for owners on the morning loop.

The dog setup

Dogs are fine in the outdoor and balcony seating; indoor dining stays people-only. Staff are used to dogs at the outside tables and accommodate them well, but a water bowl is not guaranteed, so pack your own. On weekends the outdoor section fills fast, and a corner table in the sun goes early.

The vibe

Bright, casual and in demand. Because demand runs high, the cafe keeps seating times tight and takes bookings, worth factoring in with a dog in tow rather than rolling up at 10am Saturday expecting a free table. Specialty coffee is well regarded, and there is a solid run of vegetarian and vegan plates.

Pepsi: book a table if you can, or come before 8am. The outdoor section fills fast and a dog on a waitlist is nobody's friend.

Getting there and parking

Code Five sits in the View Mount Road shops, with street parking available that fills quickly during weekend brunch. Wheelchair-accessible entry and seating are available. Hours run 7am to 3:30pm weekdays and 7:30am to 3:30pm weekends.

Worth knowing

The View Mount Road Reserve alongside the Scotchmans Creek Trail sits right there for a pre-coffee walk, and the cafe's afternoon close at 3:30pm makes it a breakfast-and-lunch place rather than a late one.

Close by with the dogs

Jells Road Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is a short drive for a proper run before brunch, and Sun's Kitchen Group is the other outdoor-table option in the suburb.
