Charity Creek Cascades Dog Park

Charity Creek Cascades is a small, unfenced off-leash park at 55 Linton Avenue in West Ryde, open to dogs around the clock and set in a natural creek corridor between the residential streets of Linton Avenue and Yallambee Road. The defining fact is the missing fence: the park occupies a flood-risk basin where council cannot install a perimeter, so it only works for dogs with dependable recall.

The dog setup

City of Ryde designates the space off-leash 24 hours a day, but it is open to the surrounding streets on every side and there is no physical boundary holding a dog in. Dogs must stay under effective control, wear their registration collar and tag, and keep well clear of the separate fenced children's playground nearby. Council caps handlers at four dogs each. Joggers, cyclists and passing pedestrians share the edges of the space, so keep an eye on approaching traffic along the boundaries.

The vibe

It is a neighbourhood pocket park with a water station, a poo bag dispenser and bench seating for owners, plus the sound of the creek's small cascades in the background. There is no artificial lighting, so in practice it is a daylight park, and no public toilets. Because it sits in a flood basin, the ground can hold water after heavy rain; check conditions before letting a dog loose.

Max: no fencing means this is not the spot for a dog still working on recall. If yours bolts at joggers or bikes, the fenced option a short distance away is the safer call.

Getting there and parking

Free on-street parking is easy along Linton Avenue and Yallambee Road, and the park sits within walking distance of West Ryde station for anyone arriving by train.

Close by with the dogs
