Malak dog park

Malak dog park, also listed as Malik Gated Dog Park, is a fully fenced off-leash area at 30 James Street in Melrose Park, open 24 hours with floodlighting for after-dark visits. It sits in the Ryde-Parramatta riverside pocket where fully fenced options are thin on the ground, which is why locals guard it.

The dog setup

Secure perimeter fencing surrounds the run, with a double-gated airlock entry, a filtered water station, sheltered seating and a bag dispenser with bins near the gate. The space suits small and medium dogs best; large dogs with big running styles may find it compact. Dogs stay leashed in the surrounding parklands and run free inside the fence under effective voice control, per City of Parramatta rules. The double gate deserves respect: wait for the outer gate to close fully before opening the inner one.

Max: the airlock only works one way at a time. If someone is already in it with a dog, step back and let them clear the gate before you start your sequence.

The vibe

Weekday evenings and weekend mornings are the social peaks, and the gate-and-fence setup makes it a comfortable crowd for owners of flight-risk dogs. Weekday afternoons are quieter and better for shy or reactive dogs. If the park is packed, Meadowbank Park next door is the on-leash fallback, and the Parramatta River foreshore is close.

Getting there and parking

The park sits off James Street, reachable via local streets from Wharf Road or Victoria Road, with street parking usually available on James Street itself. Bus stops along Wharf Road and Victoria Road cover public transport, and Meadowbank station is a reasonable walk.

Close by with the dogs

The Meadowbank Dog Beach gives your dog river swimming a short drive away, and H Kitchen or The Little Fig cover the coffee stop in the suburb. For another fenced run, the George Kendall Riverside Park Fenced Dog Park at Ermington is across the river.
