Malak dog park

The lead. Malak dog park, also listed as Malik Gated Dog Park, is a fully fenced, gated off-leash area on James Street in Melrose Park, open 24 hours a day with double-gated airlock entry and floodlighting for evening visits.

The rules. Dogs must stay on-leash in the surrounding parklands but can run off-leash inside the fenced area. Even off-leash, dogs should be kept under effective voice control, per City of Parramatta Council rules. Owners must pick up after their dogs using the bins provided, and it is worth double-checking both gates are shut behind you when entering or leaving.

What's there. Secure perimeter fencing, a filtered water station, sheltered seating for owners, a bag dispenser and bins near the entrance, and floodlighting that makes the park usable after dark.

Getting there. The park is at 30 James St, Melrose Park NSW 2114, reachable via local streets off Wharf Road or Victoria Road. Street parking is usually available on James St. Nearby bus stops run along Wharf Rd and Victoria Rd, check Transport for NSW for current routes. Meadowbank Park and the Parramatta River are close by.

Nearby with the dogs. First Farm Cafe in Meadowbank Park is a short walk or drive away. Cafes around Meadowbank Wharf and West Ryde are generally pet-friendly too, and Rhodes and Parramatta have pet-friendly serviced apartments if you need to stay over.

When to go. Weekday evenings and weekend mornings draw the biggest crowds. Weekday afternoons are quieter and a better bet for shy or reactive dogs. If it's packed, Meadowbank Park next door is a solid on-leash backup.
