Meadowbank Dog Beach

Meadowbank Dog Beach is an off-leash stretch of Parramatta River foreshore within Meadowbank Park, accessed near 14A Meadow Crescent. The defining draw is direct, no-fence swimming in a tidal river - if your dog does not love water, there is limited reason to choose this spot over the nearby fenced parks.

The rules. Check the signage at the park entrance for current off-leash hours, as the City of Ryde has been updating time-of-day restrictions and the posted information is authoritative. The beach and adjoining grass are unfenced, so dogs must be under effective voice control at all times. Leashes are required on the paved walking path and in neighbouring playgrounds - treat anything that is not the sand or open grass as on-leash. Waste bags and bins are provided on site; use them.

The water and terrain. This is Parramatta River frontage - tidal, with a sandy beach that widens substantially at low tide and shrinks at high tide. Plan around the tide chart: low to mid tide gives a roomy play area and easier water access, while high tide leaves little sand. The river is the main event, so expect your dog to get wet.

What is there. A large free car park sits just off Andrew Street. Bench seating runs along the path overlooking the beach, and a paved riverside walk lets you do a loop while your dog plays. There is no fencing anywhere on the beach or the adjoining Meadowbank Park field.

Getting there. By car, follow signs to Meadowbank Park via Meadow Crescent and Andrew Street. Meadowbank Station on the Northern Line is a short walk down to the water. Meadowbank Wharf is also close by if you are coming by ferry.

Making a day of it. If the beach is crowded or you want a fully enclosed alternative, Ryde Park Fenced Dog Park is a short drive away in Ryde. For a riverside change of scene, George Kendall Riverside Park Fenced Dog Park in Ermington offers a similar waterfront feel with proper fencing.

When to go. Aim for a weekday low tide at midday for the quietest visit with the most sand. Saturday mornings and Sunday evenings draw the biggest crowds. Weekday before-and-after-work rushes (6-8am, 5-7pm) are busy but social. Good for confident, water-loving dogs with a solid recall.
