Charles Street Kitchen is a relaxed neighbourhood cafe on Charles Street in Putney, doing all-day breakfast and modern Australian brunch from early in the morning, and the outdoor area is genuinely set up for dogs. The Parramatta River is close by, so the natural loop is a riverside walk, then the outdoor tables for a bacon and egg roll and a long coffee.

The dog setup

The cafe has been known to put on a special treat for dogs, so ask staff what is on offer when you arrive, and bring your own water bowl as a backup on a busy morning. The regulars order the CSK scrambled eggs, bacon and egg rolls, mushrooms on toast and eggs benedict, with milkshakes and croissants covering the rest of the brunch table. It opens 6am on weekdays, closing at 4pm, and runs to 3pm on weekends, so it handles both the pre-work coffee and the late-morning crowd.

Pepsi: weekday mornings if you want a table without the wait. Saturday brunch here is excellent but the outdoor seating goes early, and a waiting dog on a tight footpath is nobody's friend.

Street parking along Charles Street and the side streets is the main option and gets tight at peak brunch times. If you are coming without the car, local buses and the Putney wharf ferry are both a short walk away, which makes a river loop with the dog easy to stitch together.
