Mill Park Off-Leash Dog Park

Mill Park's off leash area sits at the north end of the park off Blaxland Road in Rhodes, along the Parramatta River foreshore. Two things decide whether it suits your dog: it is unfenced, and off leash is time-restricted. Get both right and it is a genuinely useful riverside run, steps from the water and the foreshore path.

The dog setup

Off leash is permitted daily between 5:00pm and 9:00am, per City of Canada Bay rules. Outside those hours the lead goes on. The designated zone sits north of the outdoor fitness station, closest to Blaxland Road, and it has no fencing at all, so dependable recall is not optional. A shared pedestrian and cycle path runs alongside, which is the main hazard: dogs who chase bikes or joggers should stay on lead until you are confident of a clear run. Dogs are barred from the children's playground, and off leash access is suspended whenever the oval is booked for organised sport. Bag dispensers are on site, but bring spares and check the council page for current hours before you rely on them.

The vibe

This is a locals' park rather than a drawcard, and the numbers back that up: expect a modest, low-key crowd rather than the big social scene you find at some river parks. Water station with a bowl, benches and open green space cover the basics, and the area is well lit, which makes the evening off leash window genuinely usable after dark. Weekday traffic peaks just before 9:00am and just after 5:00pm, with weekends busier again; the shoulders of those windows are the calm times.

Getting there and parking

The park sits off Blaxland Road. Street parking on the surrounding streets is tight, and Rhodes Waterside is the practical fallback. Rhodes station is a short walk away, and the off leash area links straight into the flat riverside foreshore path, which is worth the trip on its own.

Close by with the dogs

For a secure session, Lower Phoenix Park Fenced Dog Park on Shoreline Drive is fully enclosed, and McIlwaine Park Off Leash Park adds another riverside option. When the coffee call comes, Bare Witness takes dogs on its waterfront verandah and Left of Field is a short walk from the foreshore tracks.
