Mill Park Off-Leash Dog Park

Mill Park is a time-restricted off-leash area at the north end of the park off Blaxland Road in Rhodes, running along the riverside foreshore path. The thing to know up front: it is unfenced and off-leash only inside set hours, so it rewards dogs with solid recall and catches out anyone expecting a secure run.

The rules. Off-leash is permitted daily from 5:00pm to 9:00am; outside those hours dogs must be on lead. The area is not fenced, so reliable recall is essential, especially with a shared pedestrian and cycle path alongside. Dogs are barred from the children's playground, and off-leash access is suspended when the oval is booked for organised sport. Clean up after your dog; bags are provided but bring spares. These are City of Canada Bay rules, so check the council page for the current hours before relying on them.

What's there. A water station with a bowl, poo-bag dispensers, park benches and open green space. The area is well lit, which makes the evening off-leash slot genuinely usable after dark.

Getting there. It sits within Mill Park off Blaxland Road. Street parking on surrounding streets is limited; Rhodes Waterside is a fallback. It is a short walk from Rhodes station and links straight into the riverside foreshore path.

Nearby with the dogs. Left of Field is a short walk for a dog-friendly coffee, and Bare Witness on Shoreline Drive takes dogs on its riverside verandah. The foreshore path itself is a flat, scenic on-lead walk in either direction.

The busiest moments cluster just before 9:00am and just after 5:00pm on weekdays, with weekends busier again. For a calmer session, aim for the shoulders of those windows. Best for well-socialised dogs with dependable recall, not a spot for a bolter.
