Bare Witness

Bare Witness is a modern riverside cafe at 30A Shoreline Drive in Rhodes, set directly on the Parramatta River with a long verandah running along the water. For dog owners that verandah is the whole point: proper room, water views, and a table where the dog sits beside you instead of squeezing onto a strip of pavement.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on the outdoor verandah, which is sheltered and generously sized, so a leashed dog fits comfortably alongside the table. Inside stays people-only, making this an outdoor-dining visit whatever the forecast. Staff are generally accommodating, but bring your own water bowl, because a busy weekend can stretch the crew thin.

Worth knowing

This is a high-traffic venue: the panoramic river outlook, specialty coffee, an extensive weekend brunch menu and a full bar draw a crowd, and QR-code table ordering keeps things moving through the rush. Expect a wait at peak brunch times on weekends. The menu leans towards the crowd-pleasing end, with french toast, salmon soba and pasta all getting regular airings.

Getting there and parking

Street parking on Shoreline Drive is available but busy on weekends, and the cafe is a short walk from Rhodes station. You can also come across the water from Wentworth Point over the Bennelong Bridge, a flat, scenic approach that works well with a dog.

Close by with the dogs

The Rhodes foreshore paths run directly in front of the cafe, and the bridge crossing to Wentworth Point makes a longer flat out-and-back if the dog still has energy. The fenced dog parks at McIlwaine Park and Mill Park are close by for a proper off-lead run. For another pour, Left of Field is the local alternative.
