George Kendall Riverside Park Fenced Dog Park

A revamped riverside park with a fenced off-leash zone. George Kendall Riverside Park sits on the Parramatta River at Ermington and reopened in late 2024 after a $13.4 million upgrade. For dog owners the key feature is the dedicated fenced off-leash area, with open grassy ground for running and socialising away from traffic.

The rules. Dogs may be off-leash only inside the designated fenced dog area, per the City of Parramatta Council. Everywhere else in the park, including the walking paths, playgrounds and the wetland edges, dogs must be on lead. Keep your dog out of the river and the wetland plantings, which the council has fenced to protect. Clean up after your dog; bins are provided.

A note on older signage. Before the redevelopment this was an on-leash park, and some older posts still say so. The current council listing confirms the fenced off-leash area, but if signage on the day says otherwise, follow the signs on the ground.

What is there. A secure perimeter fence around the off-leash zone, flat well-kept grass, bench seating and council-supplied waste bins. Dog water is generally available, but bring your own bowl to be safe. The wider park adds riverside paths, a lookout, a learn-to-ride track and picnic areas for the rest of the family.

Getting there. Car entry is via Gregory Street, with upgraded parking on site; some access is also off Broadoaks Street. Street parking near the entrance is generally available. Local buses run through Ermington within walking distance.

Nearby with the dogs. Salt and Butter Cafe on the Ermington riverfront has dog-friendly outdoor tables a short trip along the river.

When to go. Early mornings from about 6 to 8am and late afternoons from 4 to 6pm are busiest, and sunny weekend mornings are very busy. Mid-morning, roughly 10am to 1pm, is the calmer window for a nervous dog.
