Hardwicke Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park

The Hardwicke Street Reserve dog exercise area in Summerhill is a fully fenced off-leash zone set inside a wider natural reserve in Launceston's south. The secure fence is the whole point of the trip: a proper run where property boundaries and wandering wildlife are not part of the mental load.

Off-lead, inside the fence

Off-leash applies strictly within the fenced enclosure, and the moment you step out into the broader reserve your dog is back on lead under City of Launceston rules. Inside, your dog still needs to be under effective control and supervised at all times.

Scoop straight away and use the bins provided; waste bag dispensers sit on site. In the warmer months, keep an eye out for snakes in the grassier edges and the bushland beyond the fence.

What's there

The enclosure is a big open paddock with picnic tables, pockets of natural shade and water stations for mid-session drinks, and locals rate it for the space and the sniffing ground rather than agility gear. Beyond the fence, the wider reserve carries walking tracks that make a good on-lead cool-down before the drive home.

Getting there and parking

The entrance sits at the end of Hardwicke Street, Summerhill, reached via local roads with parking close by. The bays fill on weekends and in the after-work rush, so arriving early or parking a little further up the street is normal on busy days.

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quiet windows if your dog needs room to settle. Weekends belong to the regulars, and the community feel is part of why people come back.
