Armstrongs Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Armstrongs Reserve is a long, shaded bushland corridor on Railway Parade in Seaford, running between the road and a drainage reserve. Frankston City Council designates it a free-roam area, so the appeal here is cover and sniffing: native scrub and mature trees along a central path make it a relaxed, low-key walk rather than an open oval run.

The dog setup

Off-lead is permitted around the clock, but dogs must be under effective control and come back when called, and you have to carry a lead even in free-roam zones. Keep dogs clear of the small children's playground near the Railway Parade entrance and out of the sensitive garden beds. Greyhounds must stay on-lead at all times under Victorian law, including in council free-roam areas. The corridor is not fenced, so take care with dogs prone to wandering toward the road, and carry bags; bins sit at the west end.

Max: this is a strip, not an enclosure. If your dog tracks a scent towards Railway Parade, you want their recall already working before you unclip.

What is on site

Shade is the standout, with mature trees over most of the path, plus a water fountain at the west end and benches along the way. There are no public toilets on site. The tree cover makes it a good warm-weather option when the open reserves are baking.

Getting there and parking

Street parking is generally easy along Railway Parade, and the reserve is a short walk from Seaford Station on the Frankston line, which makes it an easy car-free outing too.

When to go

Weekday afternoons and Saturday afternoons are the busiest stretches; Sunday evenings and early or late weekdays are the quiet windows.

Close by with the dogs

Coffee Train and Beach Cafe Seaford are both local dog-friendly coffee options nearby.
