Roy Dore Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Roy Dore Reserve is a fully fenced off-leash dog park on Thelma Street in Carrum, sitting inside the larger reserve next to the Long Beach Tennis Club. The secure fencing and double-gate entries are the reason to come here rather than the open beach, particularly for dogs that need a contained space.

The rules. Off-leash is only permitted inside the designated fenced enclosure. Dogs must be on-lead everywhere else in the reserve, including the southern grassy corridor. Access is through three double-gate entries built to stop escapes. Keep your dog under effective voice control and pick up after them, using the bins provided.

What is there. The enclosure mixes grass, gravel paths and mulch, with rocks and logs in the middle for enrichment. A gravel path runs the inside of the fence for walking laps. There is a water tap and bowl, and six seats around the perimeter. A children's playground and public toilets sit about 100 metres away.

Getting there. Access is via Thelma Street, with on-site parking. Carrum Station on the Frankston line is within walking distance, and the paths are wheelchair accessible.

Watch-outs. The seating is unshaded, so it gets exposed on hot days, and the ground can turn muddy in wet weather. It also gets crowded at peak times.

When to go. Weekends and the early-morning and late-afternoon windows are busiest. Weekday mornings or mid-afternoon give you more room to run. Good for dogs that need a fully fenced space.
