Tarakan Reserve

Tarakan Reserve is a small, fully fenced off-leash park at the corner of Harcourt Parade and Primrose Avenue. In apartment-dense Rosebery the fence is the whole point: a flat, enclosed patch of lawn where a dog can run without a road on the other side of a bad recall.

The rules. Dogs are permitted off-leash at all times inside the reserve, under voice control. The park is enclosed, so it suits dogs still working on recall better than the open reserves nearby. Leash up on the surrounding footpaths, carry bags, and pick up after your dog.

What's there. Benches and some shaded spots for owners, and waste bins on-site. It is a compact park, so think steady play and socialising rather than long-distance running.

Getting there. Street parking is available around the reserve but limited at peak times. Buses run along Botany Road and Gardeners Road, and it is a short walk from The Cannery precinct.

Nearby with the dogs. The Cannery and Mentmore Avenue cafes are a short walk for a coffee afterwards, with plenty of dog-friendly outdoor tables.

Mornings around 7am to 8:30am and the 4:30pm to 6pm window are busiest. For a quieter run, aim for the middle of a weekday.
